Eggs are rich in choline, a nutrient that is very much critical for brain health. Choline supports the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory and learning. Eggs are full of vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid, which are known to help prevent brain shrinkage and delay cognitive decline. According to the study published in Nutrients, women who consumed more eggs experienced slower cognitive decline and maintained verbal fluency better than those who ate fewer or no eggs.

What the research says

The study, which examined the dietary habits of over 890 adults aged 55 and older, found that women who regularly included eggs in their diet showed better semantic memory—the ability to recall categories of items, like animals. These findings were observed even after adjusting for lifestyle and health factors. While no significant effects were noted for men, the research confirmed that eating eggs did not pose any negative impact on cognitive function for either gender.

While eggs contain dietary cholesterol, studies show they do not significantly raise blood cholesterol levels for most people. As per Harvard, cholesterol in one egg a day is safe for most people. Their benefits outweigh the risks for individuals without pre-existing cholesterol issues. Rich in high-quality protein, eggs also keep you full longer, reducing unhealthy snacking and supporting weight management—another plus for overall health.
